“ This restaurant has the best German food and atmosphere in south Florida. There is a large population of German nationality here. The restaurant has expanded to include three storefronts. They are opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a large menu of German specialties and beer. My favorite is the Bavarian platter which has a sampling of veal schnitzel, sausages, and sauerbraten with two sides. They have several appetizers such as potato pancakes, pretzels, sausages and cheese. My favorite beer is War Steiner. For beer lovers they serve a large boot shaped glass. Save room for desert, because the apple strudel is excellent. ”

“ Super fun and authentic German food and beer. We met another couple and had a wonderful experience. Must have a reservation since this place is very popular especially on the weekend. We tried some of the different German beers and everyone loved their choices. We shared a potato pancake appetizer and that was really good although I'm a potato pancake expert and prefer mine more crispy and less caky. Our meals were all huge and everyone enjoyed. Schnitzel is king here and we had chicken and pork, while one of us had the sausages that he loved. I had the leftover chicken schnitzel for two days it was such a hearty portion. The sides are all delicious too. For dessert we shared a strudel with ice cream. Fabulous. The place itself is an institution and the tables are a little crowded. There's a huge patio outside and plenty of room out there. Very cool experience and if you want to try authentic German food this is it. ”

“ Really like this place. Old fashion-y German restaurant. Has a cute outside patio with a live German band, which was pretty cool, although way too loud. Couldn't talk at all while they played. The food is delicious! Started out with some potato pancakes and an order of fried Muenster cheese that comes with a tasty raspberry sauce. Both delicious and surprisingly neither was very heavy considering what they were. For entrees, we had one sauerbraten, order of schnitzel, and 2 combo plates. Everything was delicious. Apple strudel for dessert also yummy. Can't wait to return! ”

“ Checkers has a cosy feel to it that's only improved on by the fact that it smelled of stewed apples from the moment we walked in. We chose to sit outside and the staff were wonderfully accommodating and helpful getting our large party seated. We tried some beers and the black forest martini (delicious and strong, a dangerous combination!) and the pretzel basket while we decided what to eat. We finally settled on a round of schnitzels (veal and pork) with sides of sauerkraut and spatzel, the liverwurst, and the pork shank. Everything was very good, especially the schnitzel. The star of the meal however was the apple strudel. It came out covered in mounds of whipped cream, vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel. The filling was sweet and delicious, the pastry perfectly flaky. I'd come back for the strudel alone! ”

“ This place was absolutely fantastic!! We had been talking about coming here for awhile, and I am so happy that we finally made it in! We went on a Friday night, 3 people, no reservation, and were seated right away. The staff, as well as our waitress, were so helpful and friendly! Since it was our first time, she answered all our questions and suggested some great dishes. We started off with the sausage sampler: Bratwurst, Knockwurst, pepper & cheese Bratwurst, chicken & apple sausage. They were all absolutely delicious! I got the chicken schnitzel as my entree and it came with two sides. I chose the mashed potatoes and cheese spatzle. First time for the spatzle and I loved it. The rest of my party also enjoyed their meals! We couldn't not get dessert and the homemade apple strudel was so darn good! The vibe here is super fun and upbeat! There is so much to look at on the walls. They have a beer drinking challenge where you have to drink certain ones and then you get to have a cup on the wall! Plenty of seating for both small and large parties. I can't wait to go back! ”

“ If you are looking for a traditional German restaurant, look no further! We discovered this hidden gem when we lived nearby. We had gone for dinner numerous times over the years when we lived near and we also brought many friends and family over the years. When we recently returned to the area for a visit we went for dinner and I am happy to say It was just as delicious as always! When my husband and I went for dinner we had the same server from several years ago. That was a nice surprise. When you are seated they serve some cut up pretzels with mustard as you are looking over the menu. To start we ordered two German beers. For appetizer we ordered potato pancakes which is served with applesauce and sour cream. For dinner I ordered sauerbraten with spatzle and red cabbage. The Sauerbraten is a German pot roast that is marinated for two days and topped with a sweet & sour gravy. It is always consistently delicious and fork tender. After dinner, even tho I was completely stuffed, I couldn't leave without having their warm homemade apple strudel which was served with vanilla ice cream. Everything from beginning to end was delicious. My husband and I noticed that since we had been there last they had expanded the restaurant. We were happy to see that our favorite German restaurant is still thriving. Parking in this area can be tough but we found plenty of parking across the street. Keep in mind the restaurant isn't huge nor is it fancy but it's good and gets crowded in the winter months! If you would love to have some delicious authentic German food I highly recommend Checkers Old Munchen. The history of the restaurant Is described as the following: History: Established in 1982 Checkers Old Munchen was started by Detlef Neuman in 1982. He was a Chef at a 5 star rated hotel in Munich. He passed away and his tradition and recipes have been continued by Mathew Moore, who has owned the restaurant since 2007. In 2012, Checkers Old Munchen had a fired and was closed for 9 months. We gutted the entire restaurant and built a new restaurant with the same charm. In 2015, Checkers Old Munchen was named Best German Restaurant by New Times. ”

“ Food: absolutely blown away by the food. I'm not sure I knew what I was expecting when I walked in, but i'm so glad we came in. We started out with the veal and pork sausages, along with the potato pancake. All three were absolutely delicious with the mustard. The field schnitzel, was one of the best breaded fried cutlets i've ever had. The apple strudel was warm and inviting. I can't wait to come back. ”

“ If you're looking for a life-changing schnitzel experience, head to Checkers Ole Muchin. German restaurants are few and far between down here, but this place makes the drive so worth it. The veal schnitzel is out of this world and pair it with the mashed potatoes and spatzle, and you are in for an amazing treat. Pro tip - ask for extra lemons because everyone knows lemons make the dish. The walls are lined with beer steins and if you down 30 beers out of a 1 liter boot, you too can earn Das Boot! PROST! ”

Hubby had the wurz breakfast with 3 large links, eggs, toast and home fries which he enjoyed. The cappuccino was perfect and we took apple strudel home for later. The waitress Alessandra was friendly, attentive and served us with a smile. German music playing in the background and a pleasant atmosphere. Parking lot in the back with free parking. We will be back to try some of the wonderful German delights. Very enjoyable! ”
